Visitors are strongly urged not to leave any trash and not to disturb the habitat of endemic biota. The journey to Matano Lake is an adventure in itself. From Makassar, the capital of South Sulawesi, you have two main options:

• Air Route: Take a domestic flight from Sultan Hasanuddin Airport to Sorowako Airport (usually using special aircraft or charters serving mining operations and the general public).
• Land Route: The land journey takes approximately 12-14 hours by very comfortable executive bus from Makassar to Sorowako. Along the way, you will be treated to stunning typical Sulawesi scenery.

There are various accommodation options ranging from simple guesthouses to comfortable hotels with direct lake views.
