Taman Nasional Komodo, located at the western tip of Flores Island, West Manggarai Regency, East Nusa Tenggara, is more than just an ordinary tourist destination. Best Time to Visit

Weather conditions play an important role in the tourism experience in West Manggarai.

• April to June: This is the best time when the weather is very clear, but the hills are still green after the rainy season.
• July to August: This is the Komodo dragon mating season, where these animals tend to be more active but also harder to find as they retreat into the forest to nest.
• September to November: An ideal time to see manta rays and whale sharks, with relatively calm sea conditions.

Conservation and Environmental Protection

As a national strategic area and a world heritage site, environmental protection in Komodo National Park is very strict. Visitors are required to adhere to the "No Trace Left" rule, smoking is prohibited in dry areas due to the risk of forest fires, and feeding wild animals is forbidden. Zonation management is implemented to ensure that tourism activities do not disturb the Komodo dragons' natural habitat. The government also implements a quota and entrance fee system aimed at funding conservation and empowering local communities in villages within the area, such as Komodo Village.

The main gateway to Komodo National Park is through Labuan Bajo City. Komodo International Airport serves direct flights from Jakarta, Bali, and Surabaya daily. From Labuan Bajo Harbor, visitors can rent a speedboat for day trips or a Pinisi boat for multi-day trips.

Facilities within the national park area have seen significant improvements. On Rinca Island, there is a Komodo museum and an elevated deck that allows visitors to see Komodo dragons without damaging the ground structure. However, it is important to note that there are no hotels on the main islands; luxury accommodations to budget guesthouses are all centered in Labuan Bajo or on boats.
