About

Wonders of the Landscape and Geographical Features

Geographically, Palasari Dam is surrounded by hilly topography that is part of the West Bali protected forest area. The main characteristic of the landscape here is the contrast between the blue surface of the dam, covering an area of approximately 100 hectares, and the green of the mountain vegetation.

The water collected in this dam originates from small rivers flowing from the upstream mountains to the north. In the morning, mist often descends, shrouding the water surface and creating a mystical and serene atmosphere. In the distance, the silhouettes of mountain peaks provide a stunning visual depth for landscape photography enthusiasts. The presence of this dam also creates a microclimate that is cooler compared to the hot coastal areas of Jembrana.

Ecosystem and Biodiversity Richness

Palasari Dam is home to a rich freshwater ecosystem. Within its waters, various fish species such as tilapia, mujair, and snakehead thrive naturally. This makes it an important point for the conservation of freshwater fishery resources in West Bali.

Around the dam, the tropical rainforest vegetation is well-preserved. Visitors can find various types of old forest trees and lush ferns. This forest is also a habitat for various endemic Balinese bird species and long-tailed macaques (Macaca fascicularis) that are occasionally seen on the branches of trees at the forest edge. This biodiversity is maintained thanks to its proximity to the buffer zone of the West Bali National Park (TNBB).

Variety of Outdoor Activities and Tourist Experiences

For tourists seeking adventure and tranquility, Palasari Dam offers various interesting activities:

1. Boat and Canoe Tours: One of the best ways to enjoy the beauty of the dam is by renting a traditional boat from local residents. Cruising along the edge of the dam while observing the reflection of the trees on the water's surface provides a deeply relaxing effect. Water sports enthusiasts also often use canoes to explore the hidden corners of the dam.

2. Wilderness Fishing: For anglers, Palasari Dam is a paradise. With shaded fishing spots under the trees, this activity becomes a favorite way to spend time while enjoying the mountain breeze.

3. Trekking and Photography: There are walking trails around the dam suitable for light trekking. These trails take visitors through light forest areas with direct views of the water. Photographers often come during sunrise or sunset to capture the perfect gradient of sky colors reflected on the dam's surface.

4. Surrounding Agrotourism: Due to its location in Ekasari Village, visitors can also observe the agricultural activities of the local residents, from chocolate plantations to fertile rice fields thanks to the irrigation from this dam.

Best Time to Visit

The best time to visit Palasari Dam is during the dry season, between April and October. During this period, the sky is usually clear, so the mountain scenery in the background is very clear without being covered by dark clouds.

However, visiting at the beginning of the rainy season also offers a unique experience as the dam's water discharge will be at its maximum, and the surrounding vegetation appears greener and fresher. To avoid crowds, the morning hours between 07:00 and 09:00 are ideal for experiencing maximum tranquility and breathing the cleanest air.

Conservation and Environmental Protection

As a vital part of Jembrana's irrigation system, the environmental preservation of Palasari Dam is highly maintained. The local government, along with the community, enforces strict regulations prohibiting destructive fishing gear (such as poison or electric shock).

Reforestation efforts in the upstream areas are also continuously carried out to prevent the dam from silting up due to erosion. Tourists are strongly urged to practice the 'leave no trace' principle, especially regarding plastic waste, to maintain the water quality used to irrigate thousands of hectares of rice fields downstream.

Accessibility and Supporting Facilities

Palasari Dam is located approximately 26 kilometers west of Negara city center, the capital of Jembrana Regency. The journey to the location is quite comfortable with winding asphalt roads offering scenic rural views. Access can be reached by two-wheeled or four-wheeled vehicles within approximately 45-60 minutes from Gilimanuk Port.

The facilities in this tourist area are quite adequate, including:

  • Spacious Parking Area: Parking space is available for private vehicles and tour buses.
  • Local Warungs: Around the dam, there are local eateries serving local specialties, including fresh freshwater fish dishes.
  • Gazebos and Resting Areas: Several spots on the dam's edge are equipped with gazebos for relaxation.
  • Public Toilets: Clean sanitation facilities are available for visitors.

Another uniqueness of this destination is its proximity to the historic Palasari Catholic Church. This church has a unique architecture that blends European Gothic style with traditional Balinese ornaments. Often, tourists combine their nature visit to the dam with religious and cultural tourism at the church, making a trip to Palasari a complete tourist experience package: nature, culture, and peace of mind.
