Most of Indonesia has two seasons: a dry season roughly from April to October and a wet season from October to April. The dry season is the most popular window for Bali, Java, Lombok and Nusa Tenggara. But Indonesia spans over 5,000 km, so the pattern is not uniform: northern Sumatra and Maluku run on a rainfall cycle shifted by several months. Domestic travel peaks around Eid (Lebaran), Christmas and the mid-year school holidays, when transport and hotels fill up.

It depends on your nationality. Indonesia offers several routes: visa-free short visits for some countries, a Visa on Arrival (VoA) bought at the airport for many others, and an e-VoA applied for online before departure. Passports generally need at least six months of validity from the date of entry. The rules and the country list change often — check the official Directorate General of Immigration site (imigrasi.go.id) or your nearest Indonesian embassy before booking.

Domestic flights are the fastest and often the cheapest option over long distances; Jakarta, Surabaya, Denpasar and Makassar are the main hubs. For short island hops — Bali to Lombok or the Gilis, for instance — fast boats run daily. Pelni ferries connect major ports across the archipelago cheaply but take days. On Java, trains are the best option and can be booked online well in advance.

The currency is the Indonesian rupiah (IDR). Hotels, larger restaurants and city supermarkets generally take cards, and QRIS payments through local apps are everywhere. But warungs, markets, local transport and smaller attraction entry fees are frequently cash-only, so carry small notes. ATMs are widespread in cities and tourist areas but scarce on remote islands — withdraw before you go.

Indonesian (Bahasa Indonesia) is the national language and is understood nationwide. Alongside it are more than 700 regional languages — Javanese, Sundanese, Batak, Minangkabau, Buginese, Balinese and many more — which are what people actually speak day to day in their home regions. English is common in tourist areas such as Bali and in larger hotels, but far less so in smaller towns and rural areas.

Use your right hand to give and receive things. Take your shoes off before entering a home, a mosque or a temple. Dress modestly at religious sites — shoulders and knees covered; Balinese temples usually require a sarong, which is often lent at the entrance. Ask before photographing people. Patience and a calm tone of voice go a long way; raising your voice in public is considered rude.

No. Tap water in Indonesia is not safe to drink untreated. Use bottled or boiled water; most hotels and guesthouses provide it. Ice in established restaurants and cafes is generally made from treated water and is fine, but be more cautious at roadside stalls.

Your streak counts the consecutive days on which you solved the daily puzzle. Every win extends it; failing a puzzle or skipping a day starts it again from zero.

Every place you guess correctly unlocks its card in your collection. Cards carry a rarity tier (Common, Rare, Epic) that reflects how hard the outline is to recognise.

Common (grey), Rare (blue) and Epic (purple) reflect how hard a place’s silhouette is to recognise. The tier is scored from its area, coastline and number of islands — small, coastal, many-island places are harder, so rarer.

Open "Collection" in the navigation menu to see every card you have unlocked, sorted by province or by rarity.

Yes. GeoKepo is a Progressive Web App (PWA) you can install from the browser. The daily puzzle is stored on your device, and guesses made offline are sent when you are back online.
