The presence of this bay acts as a natural wave breaker. The surrounding limestone mountains and peninsulas protect the beach from the direct impact of the fierce Indian Ocean waves. As a result, Karanggongso has calm, clear waters with almost no strong currents, making it a "giant swimming pool" on the ocean's edge. To get the best visual experience, the months of May to September (dry season) are highly recommended. During this period, the sky is usually clear, and the seawater reaches its maximum clarity, perfectly reflecting the blue sky.

In the morning, around 06:00 - 08:00, the atmosphere is very calm, and the air is cool, suitable for meditation or a leisurely stroll. Meanwhile, the tide phenomenon at Karanggongso also offers a different view. During low tide, the white sand expanse becomes wider, allowing visitors to walk further towards the sea to look for shells or simply take photos.

As a popular destination, Karanggongso's main challenge is maintaining cleanliness and ecosystem sustainability. The local government, along with the local community, has implemented zoning programs to separate motorized activity areas (boats) from swimming areas to maintain water quality. Karanggongso White Sand Beach is located about 40-50 kilometers from the center of Trenggalek city, or can be reached in about 1 to 1.5 hours by land. The road access to the location is currently very good with smooth asphalt that cuts through the hills, offering views of the beautiful teak and clove forests during the journey.
