Origins and Founding Period

The history of Gereja BNKP Kota Gunungsitoli cannot be separated from the arrival of missionaries from Germany who were part of the Rheinische Missionsgesellschaft (RMG). Although the Gospel first arrived on Nias Island through Denninger on September 27, 1865, the construction of the central church in this city area was a response to the rapid growth of the congregation in the colonial administrative center at that time.

The construction of the church building we know today began in the early 20th century. Previously, the congregation worshipped in simple wooden buildings. However, with Gunungsitoli being designated as the Dutch administrative center in Nias, the need for a representative church building became urgent. The structure standing today began to be built permanently in the 1920s, making it one of the oldest functioning buildings in Gunungsitoli for its original purpose.
