Unlike conventional bridges built in-situ, the main span of Youtefa Bridge was fabricated at PT PAL Indonesia, Surabaya. Two giant steel arch spans, each weighing 2,000 tons and measuring 120 meters in length, were shipped intact, undertaking a sea journey of 3,200 kilometers to Jayapura.

This shipping process took approximately 28 days and was an unprecedented logistical achievement in the history of bridge construction in Indonesia. Upon arrival in Jayapura, the lifting and installation of the main span were carried out with high precision using the center hole jack method. This innovation minimized disruption to the marine ecosystem in Youtefa Bay during the construction period, as heavy equipment activity at the site could be significantly reduced.

Technically, the bridge has a total length of approximately 732 meters with a width of 21 meters. The structure is designed to withstand seismic shocks common in the Pacific region, utilizing a Lead Rubber Bearing (LRB) system to isolate the superstructure from ground vibrations, ensuring long-term safety and durability.

Historical Context and Development Vision

The construction of Youtefa Bridge began in 2015 as part of a National Strategic Project. The bridge's name was changed from its previous designation as Holtekamp Bridge to Youtefa Bridge, to better represent its geographical location and the local wisdom of the Youtefa Bay community.

The presence of this bridge drastically cut travel time from Jayapura City to Muara Tami District and the Skouw border, from an initial 60 minutes to just 15 minutes. Historically, the Muara Tami area was a potential food granary for Jayapura, but difficult access hindered distribution. With this bridge, the government's vision to create new economic growth centers in the eastern region is beginning to show tangible results.
