Reaching Berhala Island requires careful planning. The main departure point is usually from Tanjung Beringin Port in Serdang Bedagai Regency. The journey by modified fishing boat or speedboat takes about 3 to 4 hours, depending on weather conditions and the type of boat engine.

There are several accommodations in the form of simple dormitories or wooden huts managed by local tour providers or local security personnel. Electricity is usually only available at night using a generator. There are no large commercial stalls or restaurants, so visitors are advised to bring sufficient supplies or use tour packages that include meals.
