GeoKepo Editorial
GeoKepo Methodology
This page explains how GeoKepo data and editorial content are assembled. Its purpose is to make claims easier to check, not to suggest that our data is error-free.

1. Source hierarchy
We prioritize Indonesian government sources for statistics and administrative status, OpenStreetMap for geometry and locations, and Wikidata for entity identifiers and structured facts. Secondary sources may provide travel or cultural context and are assessed for provenance, date, and consistency.
2. Entity matching and normalization
Names, slugs, coordinates, parent provinces, and external identifiers are reconciled before publication. Spelling variants may remain as aliases, but each language has one canonical URL. Figures are not changed merely to make two sources appear consistent; discrepancies require review or context.
3. Writing and localization
Indonesian and English content are treated as distinct language versions, not just relabeled navigation. An unavailable translation must not be marked as an English alternate. Local terms are retained when translation would remove cultural meaning.
4. Pre-publication checks
Checks cover place identity, administrative relationships, coordinates, numerical consistency, source links, titles, canonical URLs, and structured data. Template-driven pages are sampled across provinces and content types so a systemic error is not multiplied across thousands of URLs.
5. Updates and uncertainty
Published or updated dates are shown only when they come from the content record; we do not generate a fresh date on every page load. Fast-changing details such as opening hours or fees should be reconfirmed with an official source before travel.
